These journeys have not only carried the physical bodies of African individuals but also their rich heritage, traditions, and stories. Yet, too often, these stories remain untold or distorted within dominant narratives. It is crucial to recognize the importance of unraveling and sharing these stories for a multitude of reasons.

We will draw from the stories that many have shared with me while I travel throughout the world. I am extending the sharing that so many great storytellers from the Hillside Sankofa Ancestry workshop have provided. Their ancestors are precious and the stories are rich. This is our time. This is the time to honor those who have come before us to teach us lessons that encourage us to lean forward and march ahead.
